Braille is a system of raised dots that can be read by touch and is for use by people who are visually impaired or have low vision. Contrary to popular belief, Braille is not a language but a code. Braille is not restricted to English, and can be used to read many other languages as well.

We at DataNZ provide Braille conversion services complying with the standards set by the Braille Authority of North America (BANA), and Unified English Braille Code (UEB) which is a subset of BANA. UEB is a new English standard code that has been developed to house the wide variety of literary and technical matter used in English.

We offer both uncontracted (Grade 1) and Contracted (Grade 2) embossed Braille materials:

  • Grade 1: This is the simpler form of braille and more of an instructional than a functional one. Uncontracted braille translates the text letter by letter making the braille document lengthier.
  • Grade 2: Contracted braille uses short forms of words to allow ease and speed of reading and occupies less space. This method is the most commonly used and easier for Braille Readers.

We have a large team with vast experience and are able to reformat and convert documents to high quality Grade 1 and Grade 2 outputs in Braille Ready Format (BRF). We are also able to replace the picture and any non-textual information available within documents into tactile images. All Braille that we produce retains the originality of the input document. We can convert to Braille from Print, Doc, RTF, and any PDF format provided as inputs.
